World heritage sites in Hungary

World Heritage Sites are places of importance to
cultural and natural heritage.
Cultural heritage consists of monuments and groups
of buildings and sites. Natural sites features geological
formations and natural sites. They are all landmarks
have outstanding value to humanity.
There are eight World Heritage Sites in Hungary. Seven
are in the cultural and one is in the natural category.
Budapest counts as one with three specific
attractions: the Danube panorama, the Castle district
and Andrassy Avenue.
Pannonhalma Abbey has an arboretum and a herb
garden. The Archabbey is one of the oldest historical
monuments in Hungary. The first Benedictive monks
settled there in 996.
Tokaj wine region is Hungary’s greatest vineyard. It
has 3000 cellars. The Tokaj Aszu wine is accredited
as a hungaricum and it is the oldest natural sweet
wine in the world.
Hortobagy was the first national park opened in 1973.
It shows how men and nature can interact in harmony.
Holloko is an open-air museum as well as a living
village which exhibits folk tradition.
Ferto Lake is situated on the boarder of Austria
and Hungary. It is recognised as one of the most
significant natural salt water in Europe.
Early Christian Necropolis of Pecs, the ancient
cemetery was founded by the Romans in the 4th
century. This site consists of churches and chapels
with ancient tombs underneath.
Aggtelek National Park area stretches accross
the Hungarian-Slovakuan border and is extremely
rich in caves.
