To eat out means to have a meal in a restaurant. You have a choice of going to a traditional restaurant, a fast food restaurant, a self-service restaurant or in summer to an open air restaurant. Eating out is a very popular pastime. In most towns there is a wide variety of restaurants serving dishes at different prices.
Restaurants serve various meals nd drinks. The guests may be served hot meals at lunch time and dinner time. Restaurants are pleasant and comfortable. Some restaurants may specialise in national, for example Hungarian, Chinese, Italian, etc. food.
When you enter a restaurants, first you enter the dining room and look for an empty table or the head waiter shows you to one. Some people reserve tables in advance. You sit down at the table and ask the waiter for the menu. When you have looked at the menu and chosen what you want to eat, the waiter will come and take your order. Sometimes you ask he waiter what he can recommend. Some restaurants have certain special dishes, which can’t be beaten at other places. When you have finished eating, ask the waiter to bring the bill. You have to make a sign to the waiter, or you say „Waiter”. If you are lucky, you don’t need to wait for the bill and you can pay.
Fast food restaurants are also popular. People choose them if they are in a hurry and they want a have a quick meal. You go into the restaurant and choose a dish you want to eat from the list hanging on the wall. Then you order what you want and pay at the counter. The cashier will give you a receipt. After paying you look for an empty table and sit down.
